An Experiment Went Wrong

During the June holidays, Tom and Sam were reading up on science experiments to do as they were bored.

“Tom! How about we make acid in your garage?” Sam asked. 

“Sure! That sounds like a great idea!” Tom replied.

“But before we do that, we need to get the ingredients first.”

“Ok,” Sam said.

Once Tom and Sam asked their mum to bring them to the supermarket to buy the needed items, they gleefully hopped into the car and went off.

When they reached the supermarket, they ran around looking for the ingredients. “Ok mum, we need to get baking powder, soap, spray-paint and any type of fragrant spray.” Sam listed to their mother.

“Alright, I’ll get a trolley and meet you at section 23 where we will be getting the baking powder and soap as it is the nearest,” mother replied.

“Alright! See you later!” Tom and Sam both said as they ran to section 23. Once their mother reached section 23, Tom and Sam with a trolley not long after they reached the section.

“Mum, we got the baking powder, but all the soap is too high for us to reach, could you help us get it?” Tom requested.

“Sure!” mother said as she took down the soap and placed it in the trolley. Then they went to get the spray-paint at the fragrance spray section.

After they got home, Tom and Sam wore gloves and immediately got to work.

Tom instructed, “Sam, first we take a container we want to put our acid in and then pour one teaspoon of baking powder.”

“Done,” Sam said.

“Then, pour two sprays of the spray-paint and fragrance spray,” Tom continued instructing.

“Also done,” Sam replied. 

“Let’s try it on that big rock beside dad’s car!” Sam excitedly said.

“OK!” Tom replied.

While they were moving the container filled with acid, a mosquito bit Tom’s arm. His arm jerked and some acid landed on one of their dad’s tyres.

While their mum went out to check on them, she was shocked. 

“TOM! SAM! WHAT DID YOU DO! DO YOU KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE A TYRE IS!” Mother shrieked.

 “In your rooms now! Both of you are grounded for a month!”

As Tom and Sam went off to their rooms, they felt sorry that they caused trouble for their family.
